We design every detail ourselves, which means we have full control over the use of our materials. In our collections you will mainly see polyester, cotton and viscose. So this is where we can make the biggest impact. By 2030, we want to replace all three materials with more sustainable alternatives.
Sustainability isn’t as simple as straightforward swapping materials. It takes time to find, test, and implement the right solutions. That’s why we have a clear plan to guide ourselves, the industry, and our customers toward better choices. Read the highlights in our roadmap to 2030.
Our choices are based on and validated by certificates or partners. Learn more about the standards and partners we are working with to make more sustainable fashion choices.
Polyester is durable, wrinkle-resistant, and easy to care for. Those qualities make it a great choice for our garments. But producing it requires significant resources and washing it releases microplastics. We are minimizing its impact by making polyester a priority.
How much polyester does JOSH V use?
Today
We increasingly use recycled polyester in our clothing collections
We minimize the use of polyester in frequently washed garments
We sell GuppyFriend laundry bags that capture microfibers
Tomorrow
By 2030, 100% of the polyester in our clothing collections will be replaced with more sustainable alternatives, like recycled polyester or innovative new materials.
Cotton is soft, breathable and timeless, but its production does harm the environment. We are reducing this impact and are actively working towards more sustainable cotton.
How much cotton does JOSH V use?
Today
We source more and more cotton through Better Cotton, or use certified organic cotton from the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and recycled cotton certified by the Global Recycling Standard (GRS).
Tomorrow
By 2026, 100% of the cotton in our clothing collections will be replaced with more sustainable alternatives, including cotton sourced through Better Cotton, GOTS-certified organic cotton, and GRS-certified recycled cotton.
By 2030, 100% of the cotton in our clothing collections will be traceable.
Viscose is soft, drapes beautifully, and does not crease, but its production can be harmful and cause deforestation. We are countering this by exploring eco-friendly alternatives for our collections and prevent deforestation.
How much viscose does JOSH V use?
Today
We use more sustainable viscose from LENZING™ ECOVERO™ and Livaeco by Birla Cellulose™ in our clothing collections.
Tomorrow
By 2028, 100% of our viscose in our clothing collections will be replaced with more sustainable alternatives.
JOSH V pieces get their characteristic, high-quality finish by blending materials. By using different fibers in one piece of fabric, we get the best properties of each material. Something that single fibers in a fabric cannot achieve.
Polyester, for example, provides bright colors, while viscose provides a soft and luxurious drape. When we add elastane, it provides extra stretch for comfort and a fit that adapts to any shape. This blend helps our garments look and feel spectacular.
We’re expanding the use of recycled materials in our blends. Although recycling can sometimes compromise quality, we found a balance that maintains the durability, look and feel you can expect from JOSH V. Take our JV Dillen and JV Kate items, for instance. A delicate blend of recycled polyester for strength and sustainability, viscose for that soft, flowing drape and elastane for added stretch and comfort.
